Curriculum Development of Bachelor¢¥s Program for Blood Bank Professionals

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to develop curriculum for blood bank professionals. The rain research question was "what was an adequate and qualified curriculum for blood lank professionals?" The authors also raised a question, "what were job descriptions and required competencies for blood bank professionals?", to develop the curriculum
The method used for this study was non-structured, open-ended interview. The
authors interviewed 11 field experts for analyzing the job of blood bank professionals. The interviewee were working at the Red Cross Central Blood Center, department of blood quality control in Korea National Red Cross as a doctor, nurse, laboratory i,echnician, administrator, and policy planner.
On the basis of analyzed job descriptions and competencies, the author developed curriculum for blood bank professionals. It was revised after 3 experts reviewed the curriculum for validation.
The results of, this study were as follows
1. Required competencies for blood bank professionals were knowledge for blood and
medicine ; competencies for donor recruit, follow up care for donor, counselling and
clucation, organizational management, blood quality control ; research ability.
2. The curriculum consists of 49 liberal arts and 102 major courses. The
requirement credits for graduation were at least 140 credits.
3. The course descriptions, purposes of education, and expected roles of graduates were also described in this study.
